OUR AVALABLE BIRDS

African Grey Parrots

The one type of bird that we pride ourselves the most on here at Parrots of the World is our baby African Grey Parrots. The African Grey has been known as a superb talking bird for centuries. As a modern day avian companion, the African Grey fits well into apartments and condominiums due to its small size and quiet nature. They rarely make enough noise to upset your neighbours.

Macaws Parrots

The available large macaws are the blue and gold, hyacinth, scarlet, green wing and military. Although some people will make Blue and Gold Macaw statements on the personalities of these different species, the bulk of these statements are made by people who base their opinions on the behavior of just a few birds.

In reality, all of the large macaws can be good pets if they are raised and trained correctly.
Availability of the large macaws are seasonal so be sure to contact us so we can let you know how old our babies are and when we can ship them.

Cockatoos

We call Cockatoos the “Golden Retrievers” of the bird world because of their easy going nature. Unlike the African Greys and Amazons, the Cockatoos generally love all members of the family unconditionally provided you buy the Cockatoo as a baby and raise it as a family member. It is important to raise a Cockatoo as a member of the family unit and not as the center of it. If you raise a Cockatoo in a way that allows it to think your family revolves around it, the bird will then literally grow up to be a spoiled brat, screaming for attention. If the bird is not given that attention it will then develop all sorts of neurosis- such as feather chewing and self-mutilation. When you buy a baby Cockatoo from us we will guide you step by step through the raising and training process so that it grows up as an asset to your family rather than a liability.

Electus

The Eclectus Parrot is a strikingly large species, measuring 430-450mm in length, including its tail, and exhibits pronounced sexual dimorphism, meaning the males and females are distinctly different in appearance.

The Male:

  • Coloration: The male flaunts an emerald green plumage with a blue bend of wing, deep blue primaries, and rich scarlet underwing coverts and sides of the belly.
  • Tail: He has a short, square tail where the central feathers are green tipped with blue, and the outer feathers are blue tipped with white; the underside is dusky tipped with yellow.
  • Features: His eyes are orange, the upper mandible of his bill is coral pink while the lower mandible is black, and his feet and toes are mid-grey.

The Female:

  • Coloration: The female boasts vivid red plumage, which is darker and duller on the back and wings. She has a blue collar across the mantle, bright blue bend of wing, and underwing coverts, with a broad violet-blue band across the belly.
  • Tail: Her tail is red tipped with orange.
  • Features: She has a pale yellow eye encircled by a blue ring, a black bill, and feet and toes that are mid-grey, similar to the male.

Sun conures

Sun conures are known for their vibrant personalities and equally vibrant vocalizations. Their shrill, harsh, and repetitive calls can be a challenge for noise-sensitive individuals or those living in small spaces. These birds are especially noisy when they lack adequate attention and exercise, a common trait among many bird species.

To ensure a happy and well-adjusted sun conure, pet parents should prioritize socialization by allowing their bird ample time outside of its enclosed habitat each day. During these out-of-cage periods, it’s crucial to supervise the bird closely to prevent any potential injuries or harmful interactions with their environment.

Providing regular interaction and activities can help manage their noise levels and contribute to a healthier, happier pet.

Amazon Parrots/LoveBirds

The Amazons Parrots are what most laymen think of when you say “parrot”. They are all native to Central and South America although nowadays they are all born here in the United States. Some of these birds offered for sale are now three generations removed from their wild- caught ancestors. The Amazons are universally heavy bodied with a short tail and are mostly green in colour with yellow, blue or red highlights. They are extroverted clowns and wildly amusing. The main disadvantage is their blind loyalty to their favourite human companion. This trait of theirs to love one human and exclude everyone else in the family sometimes causes problems in families where other members also love the bird. Having the unloved members buy their own bird, causing multi-bird families, usually solves this!
Although all Amazon parrots have the ability to talk, the most reliable ones are the Yellow Fronted Amazon, The Blue Fronted Amazon, the Double Yellow Head Amazon and the Yellow Nape Amazon.
